This past weekend, I spent some time at the local park when I caught a little bit of what I call a “little spring” in my garden. One beautiful thing about it: two ripe tomatoes. That’s right. Eat them out of a garden nest and enjoy their smell, flavor and color. What I love the most about this activity was the fact that it brings back memories or blows away preconceived notions about food. So here’s a little Valentine’s Day rooftop barbecue in the backyard, or at least a dinner party if you want to hang out at the table after dark.
As you probably guessed by now, I’m very much in love with that place, both inside and out. The simplicity and clean lines give a slightly industrial feel that’s often hard to create in living rooms or kitchens. And that’s precisely the charm of this DIY pom pom garland. Without the pom pom, this project would not be possible, period. Plus, you can use this idea as a gift for someone you care about or leave it for yourself.
Keep reading to find out how to make this pom pom garland!
Step 1. Tie a strand of fishing line onto a piece of driftwood. I tied three fishing lines onto the driftwood after setting it on my desk and going to town.
Step 2. Cut six 6” wide strips of fishing line and divide them into four 8” wide strips. You can actually measure the strips and divide them into any number you’d like.
Step 3. Take two strips and fold them in half. Then loop them around a spiral in a cocoon shape. Wrap the fishing line ends around the center of the cocoon and hold together for a few seconds. After that you’re done.
Step 4. Repeat the process or take two different projects and then tie them together. After that you can hang your garland on the wall.
I think this is a really great and relaxing activity, perfect for when the weather is nice and you just want to lie on your back and just watch nature put on a show. It’s like you stop for a moment and take something from another world. Of course, if you’re not a fan of the motion sickness, you can solve the problem with a poncho.
I’m not sure a pom pom pillow would feel like a real pillow at all but that’s the whole the purpose of this project. If you want to find out more about it or to purchase some for your own home, head over to navelandwhither if you want to find out more about this project.
Your pom pom pillow design can end up looking messy if you just throw the whole fabric on the table. There’s probably some cotton fabric hiding somewhere in there as well and you might want to get rid of it before you start this project. Once the pieces are all cut out, thread some pieces of yarn and tie them onto the pillow.
That’s pretty much it, a simple but pretty cute pillow that you can make and place outside in the garden, on the porch or anywhere else you want.
